Caring – this means we looked for evidence that the service involved people and treated them with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect.At our last assessment we rated this key question good. At this assessment the rating has remained good.This meant people were supported and treated with dignity and respect; and involved as partners in their care.

Independence, choice and control

The service promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing.People were supported to maintain their independence and told us they could choose the way they spent their day. A person told us, “The staff are kind, they know me well. I have my care when I need it, staff know my likes and dislikes.” Staff offered choices and opportunities for people; they were supported to maintain relationships with their loved ones. Another person said, “I’d recommend here, you are free to move around and have all this space to enjoy the fresh air.” Care and support plans were reflective of a service which promoted independence, staff understood their key role in helping people. A relative told us, “They leave my loved one to be as independent as they can be, ensuring they make their own choices with things.” People and their relatives were given time to feedback and make suggestions to develop the service and to ensure it was right for them. An example was where they held a resident’s forum, to discuss matters within the service.
