Our view of the service

Ryefield Court is a care home without nursing for up to 60 older people. CQC regulates both the premises and the care provided, and both were looked at during this assessment. At the time of our assessment, 51 people were living at the service.

Date of assessment: 18 and 19 March 2025. We carried out unannounced visits to the service on both days.

The service was previously registered under a different provider. This was the first assessment of the service since they were registered with this provider on 17 February 2023. We have rated the service good.

We identified some improvements were needed with medicines management. Whilst people received their medicines as prescribed, some systems and records needed improvement. We discussed this with the registered manager who shared evidence of improvements they were making.

Risks to people’s safety and wellbeing were assessed and planned for. There were enough staff to keep people safe and meet their needs. People lived in a safe, clean and well-maintained environment. The provider had systems for investigating and responding to accidents, incidents, complaints and safeguarding concerns.

The provider assessed people’s needs and choices. They consulted people when they planned and reviewed their care. Staff worked with other healthcare professionals to make sure people’s needs were monitored and met. People were able to make choices and consented to their care.

Staff were kind, caring and people felt well supported. People took part in a range of social activities and were encouraged to be independent and try new things.

Staff were happy working at the service. They felt supported and had opportunities to learn and develop in their role.

The provider had a range of audits and checks designed to monitor and improve quality at the service. The staff worked in partnership with others to follow best practice.

People's experience of this service

People and their relatives were happy with the service. They felt their needs were met and they received personalised care. They were able to make choices and enjoyed a range of activities, socialising with each other. People told us their families and visitors were welcome. People liked the staff who they described as kind, supportive and caring. Comments from people and their relatives included, “The staff are lovely people”, “What I like is the team spirit – you feel that everyone works together, and nothing is a problem for them. I am very satisfied with the care”, “The carers are my friends. They know about me, and they look after me”, “No improvements are needed at this home” and “We are always welcome as a family. The staff welcome young children and pets. It is such a nice place to be. The staff are brilliant, and we are happy with everything.”

Staff supported people to celebrate special events, including birthdays, wedding anniversaries and religious festivals. The provider ensured people received personalised care which met their needs. For example, providing specialist equipment to enhance people’s independence.

We observed kind, patient and caring interactions. Staff were responsive when people needed attention, comfort and care.
