Our view of the service
Date of Assessment: 11 March 2025. The service is a residential care home providing personal and nursing care. The service registered with CQC in October 2022, and this was their first assessment. We carried out the assessment to award a rating. The management team consisted of excellent leaders who, along with a strong staff team, had the skills to deliver exceptional support to people. Managers were clear about their roles and were passionate about the support and leadership offered to people, which was centred around and involved people to be at the heart of their care. The atmosphere throughout Moorgate Lodge was exceptionally positive, welcoming and homely. People, relatives and professionals were also full of praise for the entire staff team. The provider had a good learning culture and people could raise concerns. The management team investigated incidents thoroughly. Risks associated with people’s care and support were identified and action taken to mitigate them. The home was clean and well maintained and the provider informed us the home was scheduled for refurbishment. There were enough staff with the right skills, qualifications and experience. The management team made sure staff received training, regular appraisals and support to maintain high-quality care. People received their medicines as prescribed, and staff involved people in planning any changes.

One person said, “I am safe and quite happy and content.” Another person said, “They [staff] fetch me whatever I need. It’s always clean and there seems to be enough staff.” We received mixed views about the food provided. Some people were happy and said, “The food is lovely, I can’t fault it.” Whilst others felt it could be improved, saying, “I don’t like the food, it’s very repetitive and dull. The boiled fish on Friday is overcooked and grey.” People were complimentary about the care they received and said staff were kind and caring. One person said, “They [staff] are brilliant, they like a laugh and a joke. They [staff] persuade me into the shower every day at different times of the day.” One relative said, “The staff are friendly and nice. [Relative] has a good room with a view of the nurse’s station. It’s a hard job; they [staff] are very kind and caring, and [relative] likes them. People knew the manager and felt at ease speaking with them. One person said, “I know [manager’s name], [manager’s name] is a very nice lady. I can talk to her. If I wasn’t happy, I’d speak to [manager’s name], and she’s sort it out. I have no problems.”
