Our view of the service

Date of Assessment: 19th February to 19 March 2025. The service is a Domiciliary Care Agency (DCA) registered to provide personal care. People were supported with their personal care needs to enable them to live in their own homes and promote their independence. At the time of the inspection the service supported 278 people with personal care. Improvements had been made since our last inspection.

People received safe care as staff assessed and mitigated risks. People had individual care plans. However, there was a lack of information to safely guide staff regarding people’s “As required” medicines or for planning future care. Generally, people were confident staff would arrive as expected and stay for the agreed amount of time. However, some expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of communication when rotas were changed. Staff gave mixed views about the management team. Some expressed a supportive environment whilst others felt they were treated unequally. Quality monitoring processes were in place. However, these did not identify or rectify issues with medicines, call time communications or staff feedback.

People’s assessments recorded their preferences and communication styles. Assessments were updated to reflect any changes in health.

We have assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. Where required, staff received specific training to support people to ensure they received positive outcomes and experiences.

People had their dignity and privacy respected by staff who promoted their independence. People knew how to give feedback on their care.

People's experience of this service

People were positive about the quality of their care they or their relative received. People were supported by staff who knew them well, generally arrived when expected, and stayed for the agreed amount of time. This supported people’s confidence as they had a good relationship with the staff supporting them. All those we spoke with stated staff treated them with dignity and respect.

People were involved in the development of their individual care and support plans. These plans took account of what they could do for themselves and what they needed assistance with. These plans recorded their personal protected characteristics including, but not limited to, age, gender, religion and sexuality. People were supported by staff who knew them well and assisted them with kindness and compassion.

People told us the staff supporting them were knowledgeable and skilled. One person explained how staff knew their specific preferences for how things were and how things should be done. This was understood by staff supporting them and this helped ease their anxiety.

People felt safe from the risks of ill treatment or abuse. Everyone we spoke with told us they felt comfortable reporting anything they felt was not right. The service supported openness and was responsive to comments and suggestions for improvement. The management team acted promptly if concerns were raised, in order to keep people safe.

People, and relatives said they were regularly asked for their views and opinions on the care they received and felt their comments were valued by the service. Everyone had contact details of the office and out of hours service. All those we spoke with were confident the management team would respond to any issues raised with them.
