Independence, choice and control
The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care and wellbeing. People told us they had a good relationship with their care worker who involved them in their care and respected their decisions. People and relatives told us, “They are very friendly and efficient - they will do whatever I ask without question”, “They are very friendly and will do whatever I need” and “They talk to him and ask him if it’s alright before they do anything.” A care worker said, “People are always involved in the decision-making process where possible. As care workers we like to offer people choices when we can.”
Staff encouraged people to be as independent as possible. People and relatives told us, “They do allow her to do what she can and they do what she can’t,” and “The care worker I have at the moment says, "If you don’t use it you lose it" and I agree. As long as I can, I will do what I can.” Staff supported people to be as independent as possible, whilst balancing any risks to their safety. A care worker said, “She tries to do too much. So I have to try and keep her at an even keel. Get her to wait for me. And then we allocate tasks and make sure some of what she does, she does when I’m around.” Another care worker said, “We’re always giving them choices and making sure they do as much as they can for themselves. We are just there to assist.”
