Caring – this means we looked for evidence that the provider involved people and treated them with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect. At our last assessment we rated this key question good. At this assessment the rating has remained good. This meant people were supported and treated with dignity and respect; and involved as partners in their care.

People and relatives felt the care provided was kind and considerate, and staff were supportive and helpful. A range of activities were undertaken to occupy people and help maintain their interests.

Independence, choice and control

The provider always treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity. Staff treated colleagues from other organisations with kindness and respect.

People and relatives told us they were happy with the care provided at the home and that the staff were supportive and helpful. Comments included, “We are a picky family and can’t fault the place. Staff are attentive and very nice and polite. They are just there for you” and “Overall, I think the staff are kind, caring and treat my relative with real dignity.”

People and relatives told us they were supported to maintain relationships and friendships. One person told us they visited a local club to keep in contact with their friends. Other people told us that they were visited regularly.

The home had dedicated staff to support people with activities and help maintain their interests. The activities co-ordinator told us they tried to provide a range of activities for people to enjoy, including escorting people out into the community, arranging entertainers in the home and supporting people individually. Relatives told us the activities co-ordinators were pleasant and helpful. Comments included, I like how they introduced a non-alcoholic bar and arrange events at the home to celebrate key dates in the calendar. I've spent Christmas day with my [relative] at the home and I got a three-course meal and could eat with my [relative] in a nice setting in the home.”
