This service scored 75 (out of 100) for this area. Find out what we look at when we assess this area and How we calculate these scores.

Kindness, compassion and dignity

Score: 3

The provider always treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity. Staff treated colleagues from other organisations with kindness and respect. Everyone we spoke with said the staff treated them kindly. Comments included, “I could not ask for better, the staff here compared to where [person] was are much better.” Also, I have never seen anything but kindness from the staff.” Another relative discussed how the staff treated their family member with “Love and respect.”

Treating people as individuals

Score: 3

The provider treated people as individuals and made sure people’s care, support and treatment met people’s needs and preferences. They took account of people’s strengths, abilities, aspirations, culture and unique backgrounds and protected characteristics. We saw some good examples of where staff had tried to embrace people’s culture and beliefs. Staff had learned some phrases in another language to encourage a conversation with someone. The chef was also in the process of offering more culturally diverse food for 1 person, after taking advice from their relatives around how to prepare these meals, however this was not always happening, and their relative told us more was needed.

Independence, choice and control

Score: 3

The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing. Care plans were written in a way which encouraged and promote independence. For example, we saw how people had access to walking aids and equipment to ensure they could safely mobilise around the home.

Responding to people’s immediate needs

Score: 3

The provider listened to and understood people’s needs, views and wishes. Staff responded to people’s needs in the moment and acted to minimise any discomfort, concern or distress. We observed and heard calls bells being answered promptly.

Workforce wellbeing and enablement

Score: 3

The provider cared about and promoted the wellbeing of their staff. The staff we spoke with said they felt well supported by the provider. Comments included, “I really like working here, the staff all pull together.” Another member of staff said, “I get on with the registered manager and the area manager, they have helped me in the past.” Staff told us how they were encouraged to develop and most had completed additional qualifications and training whilst being at Moss View. One member of staff told us they did not always get breaks on time, however, other staff said they were encouraged to rest and take breaks.
