Our view of the service

Waterside Care Home is a nursing home providing personal care and accommodation for up to 60 people some of whom live with dementia. At the time of the assessment, the service was supporting 54 people. The service has 2 units a general nursing unit and a unit for people who live with dementia.

The assessment was prompted due to concerns CQC had received about the service. We carried out our on-site assessment on 21, 26 November, and 03 December 2024. This was an unannounced assessment. Our offsite assessment was concluded on 19 December 2024. During this assessment, we looked at quality statements from the safe, and well-led key questions.

We found there was not always enough staff to ensure people were supported in a timely manner and in accordance with their preferences. We found this to be a breach of regulation, and we have asked the provider to complete an action plan to tell us how they will improve in this area. We found some risks had not been considered by the provider. We also found some records were not accurate and did not always reflect people’s current needs. Although the provider had audits in place these were not always effective as they had not identified the issues we found during this assessment. We found this to be a breach of regulation, and we have asked the provider to complete an action plan to tell us how they will improve in this area. The provider did address all the immediate safety issues we raised during our visit.

Systems were in place to review incident and accidents, and action was taken to learn lessons from these. People were supported by staff who had been recruited safely and trained and understood how to protect people from abuse. People received their medicines when they needed them.
