Capable, compassionate and inclusive leaders
The provider had inclusive leaders at all levels who understood the context in which they delivered care, treatment and support and embodied the culture and values of their workforce and organisation. Leaders had the skills, knowledge, experience and credibility to lead effectively. They did so with integrity, openness and honesty. Comments from people and their relatives included, “I think the office and the care managers are great as are the carers. It’s fine. Our loved one is stable and can voice what they want. So, for us it’s great. They are kind.”, and “They are very good. The office and carers work well together.”, and “They are very organised and efficient. They’re available in an emergency. It’s the most organised [agency] that I’ve witnessed.”
The provider had a registered manager in post. The registered manager had managed the service for 9 years. They were responsive when things went wrong. There was an organisational structure in place and staff understood their roles, responsibilities and contributions to the service. The registered manager demonstrated a clear understanding of their responsibility under the duty of candour. The Duty of Candour is a regulation that all providers must adhere to. Throughout our assessment of the service, management and staff we spoke with acted with openness and transparency.
Staff were positive about how the service was run and about the support they received from the registered manager and office staff. A staff member told us, “I have been here since 2011. I really enjoy working here. The registered manager and the provider are nice people. They always listen to me and the rest of the staff. They would make any adjustments for me to do my work if need be.” Another staff member commented, “This is a great company to work for. If I have any concerns, the manager and provider are always willing to help me. Teamwork and communication are always good.” Management support was available for staff when they needed it.
