Date of assessment: 4 November to 18 November 2024. Wheal Northey is an NHS GP practice located in St Austell and has a score of 5 on the deprivation scale (scored from lowest to highest (1-10)). There were approximately 32,500 people registered with the service at the time of our assessment. The practice has a main site at Wheal Northey and 3 branch sites: The Carlyon Health Hub, Park and Foxhole. St Austell Community Hospital is also a registered branch but at the time of this assessment, the service was not delivering any regulated activities. We assessed all quality statements across safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led key questions. At this assessment, we found the practice understood their patient population and were passionate about improving health outcomes. Staff involved people in decisions about their care and treatment and supported them to ask questions. The practice reviewed and responded to feedback and continues to improve their systems and processes. However, our remote clinical searches found gaps in the required monitoring of people on certain medicines and we identified some issues during our onsite visit. The practice addressed this immediately and instigated further systems and processes to reduce the risk of this reoccurring.
