Our view of the service
We assessed Nelson House on 19th January and 16th May 2024. Nelson House is a purpose-built rehabilitation unit for men of working age. The unit is registered for up to 32 people. At the time of the assessment there were 17 people admitted across 2 wards. Trafalgar ward initial assessment locked rehabilitation and Victory ward which people moved onto as part of their recovery pathway. 16 of the people on the wards were detained under the Mental Health Act 1983 and one person was informal. A warning notice had previously been issued in relation to fire risk assessment, ligature risk assessment, risk assessments for people, medical equipment, care plans and governance to ensure quality of care. This inspection was to follow up on the warning notice. At this assessment we found these issues had been addressed and significant improvements had been made in all areas. For this assessment only the safe domain was assessed . Previously the safe domain had an inadequate rating. Following the findings of this assessment that has improved and safe is now re rated good.
