During an assessment under our new approach

We carried out this announced on-site assessment on 18 March 2025.

We found the practice had met regulations. Infection control procedures in place were effective.

The practice had effective systems to identify and manage risks. Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation, however they were not always followed.

There was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement.

Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance. Patients were treated with dignity and respect and at the time of our assessment, could access care, support and treatment when required.

The practice is in Firswood, Greater Manchester and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children.

There was step-free access to the practice and car parking spaces, including dedicated parking for disabled people, were available near the practice.

The practice had 3 treatment rooms. The total number of staff was 8. During the assessment we spoke with 3 dentists, 3 dental nurses and the receptionist. We gathered feedback from staff and spoke to a range of staff during our assessment.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with four patients who had been seen by the dentist. Comments included: 'The dentist always explains the options to me and I make a decision about whether I want the treatment.' 'They always tell me what they think I need and let me decide.' The patients we spoke with were all positive about their care and treatment at the practice. Comments included: 'It is easy to get an appointment.' 'I have no complaints.' 'I have quite a good relationship with my dentist.' 'I have been a patient here for X years and am very happy.' 'They are very good I am happy with everything.'

We saw stocks of personal protective equipment (PPE) were available to staff. We spoke with two dental nurses who told us: 'There are always gloves and aprons available.' 'We have access to gloves and aprons.'

We spoke with two dental nurses who told us: 'Anything new is discussed at lunchtime.' 'Communication is good; there is always someone to discuss any concerns with.'

We looked at the maintenance file and saw regular checks on equipment such as; fire extinguishers, oxygen cylinders, autoclaves and x-ray machines were undertaken.

We saw there were systems in place to monitor the quality of the service patients received. We saw patient surveys in the form of a questionnaire had been regularly carried out.
