During an assessment under our new approach

We carried out this announced on-site assessment on 12 February 2025.

We found the practice had not met all regulations.

Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance and infection control procedures were in place.

The practice systems to manage risks required strengthening.

Recruitment procedures did not reflect current legislation and there was no effective leadership or culture of continuous improvement.

Patients were treated with dignity and respect and at the time of our assessment, could access care, support and treatment when required.

The practice is in Stoke on Trent and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children.

There was no step-free access to the practice and car parking spaces, including dedicated parking for disabled people, were available near the practice.

The practice had 3 treatment rooms. During the assessment we spoke with 1 dentist, 2 dental nurses and 1 receptionist.

The provider was not complying with 1 regulation. Full details of the regulation the provider was not meeting are within the assessment findings below.

We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.

During a routine inspection

We carried out this inspection as part of our schedule of inspections to check on the care and welfare of people who used this service. The inspection was announced, which meant that the provider and the staff knew we were visiting. On the day of our inspection we spoke with four people, four staff and looked at six treatment records. People receiving treatment at the dental practice told us they were very happy with the care that they received. One person told us, 'The dentist involved me in what he was doing and explained it all to me'. Another person told us, 'I know I am in professional hands here '.

People told us they were involved in the planning of their treatment and were treated with dignity and respect. We observed that people were communicated with in a professional and friendly manner and that care and treatment was planned and delivered in a way that ensured people's safety. We saw that people were cared for and treated by staff that had the appropriate knowledge and skills. Throughout our inspection the practice appeared clean and tidy.
