Independence, choice and control
The service had a strong focus on empowering people to be as independent as they could be and make choices. People were supported to engage in activities in their community which promoted and supported their independence, health and wellbeing. Some did this independently, people accessed local towns on buses and 1 person volunteered for an advocacy service. One relative told us, “[Name of person] is supported to access their activities in the community, they are happy.” Activities included accessing their on-site hydrotherapy pool, arts and craft sessions, sailing, theatre trips, discos, local groups and visiting local towns.
People were supported to have relationships; staff were actively supporting a couple living at the service to develop their relationship in line with their wishes.
Visiting professionals unanimously commented positively about the support people received, resulting in positive outcomes for people.
