Updated 6 March 2025
The assessment began on 17 March and concluded on the 2 April 2025. Rakewood House provides accommodation and nursing care for up to 30 people. At the time of our inspection there were 26 people living at the home.
The assessment was prompted in part due to information of concern received in relation to poor nutrition and hydration, standards of care and record keeping. This assessment examined those concerns. We also reviewed action taken in relation to the breaches of regulation found at our last inspection. We looked at all 34 quality statements across the 5 key questions.
The registered manager had been in post since November 2024. Management systems were in place to help monitor and review the care standards. An action plan was in place to address the identified areas of improvement. The registered manager was also working closely with the local authority and other agencies to help improve standards within the service.
Sufficient numbers of staff were available. However, staff felt more were needed at core times due to people’s care needs. Managers acknowledged these would be kept under review and increased where necessary. Pre-employment checks were completed prior to new staff commencing work. Areas of staff training and development were being enhanced ensuring staff have the knowledge and skills needed to effectively meet people’s individual needs. Staff spoke positively about the registered manager and the support provided.
Work had been undertaken to ensure accurate and complete records were maintained in relation to the care and support people received. Care plans were detailed and had been kept under review. People’s prescribed medicines were safely managed. Staff continued working closely with relevant agencies in meeting people’s healthcare needs.
The home was clean and tidy. Relevant servicing and checks of the home and equipment had been completed and a refurbishment plan was in place to enhance the standard of accommodation provided.
