Caring

Good

21 March 2025

Caring – this means we looked for evidence that the provider involved people and treated them with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect.

This is the first assessment for this newly registered service. This key question has been rated Good. This meant people were supported and treated with dignity and respect; and involved as partners in their care.

People were supported by a staff team who knew their needs, were kind and treated them with dignity and respect, and worked with people to maintain as much of their independence as possible.

This service scored 75 (out of 100) for this area. Find out what we look at when we assess this area and How we calculate these scores.

Kindness, compassion and dignity

Score: 3

People told us staff caring for them were kind and treated them with dignity. One person told us they enjoyed the carers coming to support them, they enjoyed their company. Another person told us staff were always mindful of their dignity making sure curtains were closed and doors were shut when providing personal care.

Staff told us they were happy with the way their colleagues supported people. We asked staff if they would be happy for one of their family members to receive care from the service. All the staff we spoke with responded positively. One member of staff said, “Yes - because the carers show compassion and empathy (towards people) when we work together I see the way other staff work.”

Treating people as individuals

Score: 3

People told us the staff treated them in an individual and personalised way. Once people’s care packages had been agreed the registered manager and their team worked to ensure people had a regular group of care staff visiting them. People told us this ensured staff were familiar with their needs and provided care in the way they wanted it.

We saw there were examples of how staff were guided to provide individualised care from the information in people’s care plans and through talking to other staff about people’s care. One member of staff said, “We get to know people well and make sure we remember what they want.” The member of staff gave an example of how one person liked to be left with a cup of tea and a cold drink just before the staff member left their call. They went on to say, “So I always just do that before I go.”

Independence, choice and control

Score: 3

People told us staff worked with them to ensure they had as much choice and control over their care as possible. We saw information in people’s care plans showing how they had requested their care

be provided. People gave a number of examples of how staff helped them but allowed them to maintain their independence. One person said, “They let me do what I can do. They don’t take over.” A relative gave us an example of how staff supported their relative to be independent. They said, “They (care staff) encourage [Name] to wash, they allow them their own routine and make sure [Name] washes everything in their own time. “

Responding to people’s immediate needs

Score: 3

Staff were all aware of how to respond to people’s immediate needs. For example, one staff member told us of how they had reacted when they had attended a person who had fallen. They gave a very clear explanation of what they did to ensure the person got the immediate care they needed safely.

Workforce wellbeing and enablement

Score: 3

The feedback from staff about how they were supported by the management team was positive. They told us they were supported by field supervisors in their daily work rounds and also the office care co-ordinators. One staff member said, “Yes a great place to work, can't think of anything I don’t like. We support people to stay in their own homes by working with families and health professionals to make sure they get the right care.” Another staff member told us, “I think it's a good place to work and I would recommend it to other people.”
